I began teaching guitar 30 years ago and have been playing guitar for 40 years. I am also an experienced songwriter, music arranger and performer. I now specialize in teaching acoustic guitar.

I teach Monday to Friday during the day or evening and during the day on Saturday.

Lessons are one to one for 7 years and over and are 30 minutes long, once a week. $25 per lesson. The first lesson is free.

For Children aged 7-11 I provide a playful and interactive stye of teaching which encourages self expression and kids absolutely love it.

I have developed a unique style of teaching that aids rapid learning and is equally focused on the enjoyment of learning. It includes numerous shortcuts and techniques to help pupils to improvise and play with dynamics.

The main points of lessons are recorded so that pupils have something to listen to at home. This enables us to cover more in the lesson and dramatically improves the effectiveness of home practise.

Lessons are conducted in my home recording studio, which is available for pupils to record their performances during lessons or to hire at additional times. I am then able to help them create their own CD.

Most weeks a new song is taught from a wide range of styles. Lessons are tailored to suit the individual and all song charts and written material are provided at no extra cost.

Although I specialize on acoustic guitar, everything taught is transferable onto electric guitar. I have a selection of electric guitars and a high quality special effects processor available for occasional experimentation.

Many pupils, both children and adults, have been with me for years and have become close friends as well as competent guitarists. I’ve even taught people in their 70’s.

Bio

Alan attended university studying music. During this creative period he joined the band Medusa as lead vocalist and guitarist. Medusa performed many of his original compositions and went on to win the Wellington battle of the bands. They were awarded recording time and radio and television coverage.

Alan has performed solo and worked with Tongue & Groove, Auckland’s premier function Band. During these years he performed for numerous corporate clients and celebrities such as TVNZ, Fletcher Challenge, Coca-Cola, The Auckland Blues and The Radio Awards. He has also composed over 100 jingles for radio and television and produced albums of his own music.
