Happy Birthday Relleke. Hope you had a day where at least some of your wishes came true. The festive season may have gone, but we here at the “Y’ like to look on the bright side of life.
Thank-you for all the work and the helping hand that you give, for all of us at the club. Your tireless work is really appreciated.
The bright new Club Newsletter is out this week. Congratulations Stephen, our new editor. A lot of hard work has gone into this and it has been well supported with members contributions.
Sounds like the South of France is, well, very much how many of us envisage it. A relaxed place and just a little different.
Do take the time to read the background information on marathon training that Phil has provided. All those little things help on the big day ahead.
Week Two of the Rotorua Marathon Build-up, sees us head out to one of our favourite areas of Auckland, Cornwall Park. A relaxed 23.5km officially, but there will be a detour towards the end, because the blue bridge to the Parnell Baths is a bit like that Bridge to Nowhere. Continue on past the bridge, turn onto The Strand, left again and up Gladstone Rd. Yeah !
Week 2 see mapmyrun web site for the course map. NOTE: Divert to Strand and Gladstone if blue bridge replacement not complete. – Gracias, Simon.
Hopefully everyone is starting to settle into the correctly paced pack, to suit your current fitness level. By all means ask questions about the normal routines of some of the experienced runners & walkers. Ask about some of the mid week runs, or check if others live in your area of Auckland. You may wish to get together, your own group. Have a good look at your training shoes or race shoes.
Ideally the shoes should be suited to your particular running or walking style. It’s about injury prevention. Get along to Shoe Clinic 101 Ponsonby Rd for expert advice. Just let them know you are from The Auckland YMCA Marathon Club.
The 10k in the Auckland Domain on Thursday evenings over summer, provides an ideal workout and gives a good measure of the improvements in your fitness. Encourage others from your work to come along and enjoy one of the best Auckland Parks & Recreation areas. There is a good chance of winning one of the wonderful spot prizes from our loyal sponsors.
